The Chesapeake Beacon is intended to be a totally independent voice for liberal religion without formal affiliation with any religious denomination or faith.  Although the editor/publisher is a retired Unitarian Universalist minister and a strong advocate of that faith, he does not purport to be the spokesperson for any institution or organization, Unitarian Universalist or otherwise.

The intent of The Chesapeake Beacon, however, is to promote liberal religion in Southern Maryland, especially of the Unitarian Universalist variety.  It's acknowledged bias is toward liberalism in religion in general, and Unitarian Universalism in particular.  It does not pretend to be "impartial" or "non-partisan" in its approach, but it does cherish the free exchange of ideas and opinions as being essential to the pursuit of truth and mutual understanding.
